A Helpful Guide for Decluttering Your Home
Living in a home that is overrun by clutter can increase your anxiety and stress and take your home from being a place of relaxation to being a place that is very stressful to live in. Millions of people all over the world have cluttered, unorganized homes, but this does not have to be the norm. If you have a cluttered house, it may take a lot of work to get rid of the clutter and get organized, but in the end you will have a comfortable place to rest and relax, so the sacrifice is worth it.
One of the first tips to keep in mind when decluttering your home is to develop a plan and take the project in small steps. If you look at the entire house and how much work it is going to take in order to get the place cleaned up, it will be very demotivating. Try and create some type of plan to tackle specific areas or rooms of the home at a time so that you can stay motivated to get the job done. When you are creating this plan, also schedule out how much time you want to dedicate to each task on a daily basis. You do not have to try and get an entire room organized in one day. Set aside 15 minutes a day to get rid of the clutter and organize. It might take you a month, but at least the work will get done!
When you begin the decluttering process, you should start by getting rid of all the junk you do not need or do not use. Many people are pack rats, meaning they keep trash or items that they do not really need or use. These items simply collect around the house and have no real purpose other than creating clutter. Go through and collect these items from each room and store them in a box. When each room is finished you can take the box and donate it to a local charity or you can even sell the items online through websites like Ebay. This will help remove those items and can also put a little change in your pocket.
As you begin to organize your home, make sure that you clearly define places for every item in each room. Make sure everyone who lives with you understands that this designated place is where the item must go after each use. You must be sure to put things back where you got them from after you use them so that your organizational system functions like it is supposed to. Having this type of system in place will reduce the anxiety of not being able to find the right tool for the job.
The hardest part of organizing the home is keeping it that way. You might have to lay some strict ground rules for others in your family, but stay vigilant so that the system functions properly and your home will remain clutter free for the long term.
